  • How do we get to the Island?
Peaks Island is part of the City of Portland and is approximately 3 miles from downtown Portland. The ferry crossing takes about 15 minutes. Casco Bay Lines makes regular trips throughout the day, rain or shine, year-round. Tickets can be purchased at the time of departure. Casco Bay Lines does not accept reservations for passengers or vehicles. Cars, dogs, and bicycles also require tickets. Water taxis, and mooring options for those traveling by boat are available by prior reservation. • What should we bring?
Anything you think you might need. Our homes are stocked with basics like paper towels, toilet paper, salt and pepper. All our homes will have pots and pans, dishes, dish towels, and the lawn furniture and furnishings pictured. If you have a specific need, please reach out to us. Most homes have internet, TVs, dishwashers, and laundry. It will be noted in the property description if these amenities are not available. None of the Port Island homes provide linens for use during your stay. We work with a linen rental company on the mainland and can arrange to have sheets and towels at your rental home upon arrival. Please email Judy at judy@portisland.com for more information.
  • Are towels and linens included?
No. As has been our policy for more than two decades, you must bring your own linens. Some homes will provide towels. Please email us or check your home’s description. Linen Rental is available. We contract with area providers to coordinate linens for your stay. If you’d like to have linens and towels waiting for you upon arrival, please contact Judy at judy@portisland.com and we’ll make it happen.
  • Are there restaurants, bars, and things to do on Peaks Island?
Yes! There are restaurants with bars, shops, museums, and lots of things happening on the Island. We are a highly seasonal location so not all attractions are open year-round. You will want to confirm hours and availability of Island businesses and attractions from mid-September through mid-May. All of Peaks Island is fully open June, July, and August.
  • What happens in an emergency?
The Portland Police Department and Portland Fire Department maintain a constant presence on the Island. There is a Portland Police Officer and an EMT on duty on Peaks Island at all times. The Fireboat is available 24/7 for medical emergencies requiring passage to a hospital on the mainland. Please call 911 for any emergency. 911 operators will dispatch the fireboat and the on-island responders.
  • Are there discounts for extended stays?
Quite possibly! We have a personal relationship with every owner. Many owners would love to have longer term guests and are open to discounting multiple-week stays. Contact us with your plans and we’ll find the right home for you.
